Ten Tors 2012

The challenge this year was particularly tough, not least because of the difficult weather conditions. The usual weekend training was in driving rain and either low cloud or dense fog, but the event itself took place in hot sunshine, creating a few problems of a different kind for the students to overcome.

The year 10s (35 milers) managed to complete the challenge losing only 1 member Jessica Roome 10DA with badly blistered feet.
Well done to Jacob MacCowan-Smith 10SR, William Squire 10LI, Matthew Turner 10KV, Michael Laycock 10MH and Tom Crook 10EH.
The route they did was route I: Start - Watern Tor – Sittaford Tor – Beardown Tor – Great Mis Tor – South Hessary Tor – Great Staple Tor – Lynch Tor – Chat Tor – Kitty Tor – Sourton Tor - Finish

The year 11s (45 milers) unfortunately managed to get round their route only as far as the 9th Tor ( Sittaford Tor) where the Military stopped them as they would not have got back to the finish by 5pm.

This was still a great effort to almost complete the route in the extremely hot weather.
Well done to the whole team for getting as far as they did. The team was :
Miles Kingsley 11LC, Bradley Bell 11LC, Sam Cooper 11JO, Beth Cox 11JN, Sean Farr 11GK and Ryan Hough 11GK.
Their route was Route R: Start – Kitty Tor – Lynch Tor – Great Mis Tor – Black Tor – South Hessary Tor – Trowlesworthy Tor – Pupers Hill – Coombestone Tor – Sittaford Tor – watern Tor – Finish

A BIG thank you to the staff who assisted with the training and came along to the Event and to Gemma Testro 11MR who attended as the Reserve for either team and helped out around the base camp: Mrs R Grainger, Miss L Brierley, Miss T Hanna and Miss S Wadham.
